What is NO KILL???

No Kill means that all healthy/treatable animals are given a real chance at life.

Did you know,
Shelter Killing is the number one
cause of death for healthy animals!

Over 65% of animals brought to the Maui Humane Society are killed,
and over 90% of these are healthy animals!

We believe this is disgusting and a terrible way to treat animals,
yet this is a common occurrence, in many areas, around the country!

Shelters have latched onto archaic views of animal management,
running their shelters according to out dated, irresponsible models.

Our society should be advanced enough to look at animals with compassion, and inlist truly humane solutions! This is the 21st century! These are our PETS, animals that are such an integral part of our families! And No Kill has been proven to work all around the country, including shelters with open door policies!!

Every animal that comes into a shelter should be looked at as a part of someones family. What needs to be done to help this animal?
What can be done to prevent more like it from coming in, in the first place?

Over 90% of animals, on average, brought into shelters, should and would be saved, Including elderly animals, ferals, those that need special attention, perhaps rehabilitation, and/or medication, more time to adjust, and just love.

Places like San Francisco, Ca., Ithaca New York, even Reno Nevada, Austin Texas have all implemented a No Kill policy and we can too! These are places larger than Maui and smaller than Maui, and even places with less money for their shelters! Over 140 cities or communities now are considered No Kill. Not just a few shelters, but the whole area, the whole community. Currently more than 90 open admission shelters are No Kill in our country.

It's not just saying ".. of course we want to be No Kill, but..."

It's a whole philosophy. You embrace the idea and do all you can to make it happen.

STOP ignoring what happens behind closed doors!

Isn't it time we stop ignoring the problem of pet over population,
allowing others to "get rid of" anything we don't want to deal with,
while we look the other way....
There are viable, proven alternatives out there.
We all need to step up to the plate.
Act on what we believe.
Implement humane animal control and
become a humane society...
